Morning is the most important part of the workday for Mi Ying, the 47-year-old headmaster
of Huishi Primary School in Shanghai. Miss Mi is always at the school gate when it opens at 7:40
am. "I can tell if the children are happy by saying hello to them and seeing their faces, " said she.
"I want every student to enjoy their time at the school. "
Huishi, founded in 1870, is one of the city's oldest schools. It now has around 2, 600 students
in 58 classes. Teachers here have their own special ways of teaching. Miss Mi is one of them.
When. Miss Mi was just a math teacher 20 years ago, she took her students to the park or the
subway station to have lessons. In 2001, a tree older than 100 years in the school became her
teaching tool. She asked her students to come up with ways to size its height, and they provided
more than 20 different answers. Miss Mi believed students could learn better through this way
than just reading textbooks.
In the school, the relationships between teachers and students are also great. For some special
kids, such as those with disabilities or special talent, teachers pay close attention to them and
always provide them with whatever help they may need. Miss Mi said that her office is always
open, in this way students can talk to her Whenever they want.
Besides great teachers, there are interesting activities after school like Peking Opera, paper
art, first aid and many others. Through the Peking Opera class, many students began to show
interest in the traditional Chinese culture. Several talented children even got achievements in it.
"We want to give our children more chances to experience new things and develop their
interests, " Miss Mi said。

Have you ever noticed how many calories(卡路里) you eat in a day? There is a special store
opened in the Chengdu Youth Palace. If you "shop" there, you can find out how many calories
there are in different foods. The store was opened on May 17th, 2022. It's part of the "Know You
Food" program of the UNICEF. The purpose of the program is to make children and young people
know more about foods, and help them make healthy choices about what to eat
Instead of real foods, many imitation (仿制) snacks are put on the shelves in the store
including candies, sugary drinks and many packets of latiao. People can take them to the
self-service counter(柜台) to see how many calories (A) they have. In addition, the store offers
many models and cartoons to help people understand which foods are very good for them and
which foods they should eat less often. "I didn't expect that I would have to climb 70 floors to
burn off the calories, " says Liang, a local fifth-grader, after checking out her chosen food.
(B) At present, being too heavy has become a serious problem among children. It is shown
that nearly 20% of children between 6 and 17 years of age, and over 10% of children under the
age of 6 in China are overweight. Experts also point out that the cheap, highly processed foods
and drinks can lead to the rapid growth of children who are overweight.
Being overweight is known to have many bad influences, such as having a higher risk of
getting illness and a higher risk of developing problems with feelings and behavior. Such a store
helps to remind children to care about what they eat. At the same time, similar stores are opened in
other cities, such as Weihai in Shangdong Province and Enshi in Hubei Province.

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Grain Rain, as the
last term in spring, starts on April 20 and ends on May 4.
Grain Rain starts from the old saying, “Rain brings up the growth of hundreds of grains.” (1)
It shows that this period of rain is very important for the crops. The Grain Rain means the end of
cold weather and a rapid rise in temperature. Grain Rain brings a marked increase in temperature
and rainfall and the grains grow faster and stronger. It’s a key time to protect the crops from
insects.
Grain Rain falls between the end of spring and the beginning of summer, with little cold air
moving to the south. From the end of April to the beginning of May, the temperature rises much
higher than (2) it does in March. With dry soil and heavy winds, sandstorms become more often.
There is an old custom in southern China that people drink tea on the day of Grain Rain.
Spring tea during Grain Rain is rich in vitamins, which can help to remove heat from the body and
