Train travel is possible as far away as Urumqi. For those brave souls who decide to make the Urumqi-Kashgar trip, count on at least 24 hours from one end to the other.

If you’re willing to take a bus, you can arrive from several destinations. There are bus companies from all over XinJiang that either go to Kashgar or can arrange Kashgar as a final destination with a transfer. Buses also regularly travel from Kyrgyztan and Pakistan.

For those with more money, it is possible to rent a car that will drive to neighboring cities and even countries. If traveling over a border make sure your driver has the requisite paperwork or you might end up getting stranded at the border.
